On Saturday, July 19, 2025, the newly installed Board of the Jamaica Occupational Health &
Safety Professionals Association (JOHSPA) for the 2025–2026 term convened for its Annual
Board Retreat. The retreat provided an important opportunity for Board members to align on
priorities, strengthen governance, and set a clear strategic direction for the year ahead.

The programme included insightful presentations from Elaine Duncan, President of the Jamaica
Household Workers Union and Robert Chung, Vice-President of the Jamaica Civil Service
Association Occupational Safety and Health Committee, offering valuable perspectives on
worker representation, emerging occupational health and safety concerns, and opportunities
for collaboration across sectors.

In addition to stakeholder engagement, the retreat focused on strategic planning for the
upcoming year, including key initiatives, member engagement, advocacy goals, and capacity-
building activities. This session reinforced the Board’s commitment to advancing JOHSPA’s
mission and enhancing occupational health and safety standards across Jamaica.
The Annual Board Retreat marked a strong and purposeful start to the 2025–2026 term, laying a
solid foundation for effective leadership, collaboration, and impact.
